I boarded a KAL plane at Pearson International Airport on Saturday morning, January 20th, 1996. I had a coffee in Vancouver during my stopover and met with my grandmother and other relatives. It was snowing when my plane landed in Seoul and trekking on to Tonghae, Kangwondo took another few hours, so I slept on the way. Later that night I ate kimche for the first time!

My first year teaching in Korea was like my rookie season. During that time I had the opportunity to teach civil servants at two city halls, police officers at a police station, engineers at a cement company, middle school students, elementary school students, university students, and many others. It was an exciting time where so much was new, ranging from the food and the language, to teaching itself. I learned a lot during that first year, and I have continued to learn in the years since.

During my three sojourns in South Korea, I've had the privilege of teaching in Tonghae, Samchok, Bundang, and Seoul. I have also taught in Toronto, Canada. Six years in the Canadian public school system have led me to teach Grade one, two, and six classrooms, and also teach Special Education to grade seven and eight children. I completed my Masters of Education earlier this year, and will begin my Ph.D. with the Ontario Institute for Studies in Education at the University of Toronto this summer.
